Astral Projection 101

I'm writing this article from my own perspective and experience with Astral Projection. It's important to remember, everybody's experience with Astral Projection will be different. There is no set right or wrong way to explore the Astral Realm. It should be noted however, practising Astral Projection whilst suffering mental distress isn't recommended. If you want to explore Astral Projection and have the best experience possible, then it's paramount you're in the right state of mind.


Astral projection can be defined as an out-of-body experience, where one can observe their body and explore the Astral realms from outside of their physical human body. It's the idea of split consciousness, where consciousness leaves the human body and enter's elsewhere (the Astral Realm). During Astral Projection, the human body is still able to recognise cases of emergency or disturbances within the physical world, where the person can wake up and tend to the issue at hand. The person is not asleep or hypnotised during Astral Projection, they're just "Away From The Keyboard" as such, they will remember everything they experience and can return to their body as soon as they desire.


You may have heard of people Astral Projecting during near-death experiences, where they view the experience from outside of their body. For example, they may be watching themselves as they drown or looking down onto the emergency service staff attempting to save their lives.


Near death experiences would be an example of unintentional Astral Projection.


You can intentionally Astral Project to explore the Astral Realm's as many times as you like and it's entirely safe. The more you do it, the better at it you get. Some people even Astral Project to check on their loved ones to ensure their safety in other cities or even, other countries. The world is literally your oyster, with Astral Projection.


I have projected a few times since being on my Spiritual Journey as well as at times when I didn't know what Astral Projection was. Projecting is entirely safe and achievable by everyone, you don't need any drugs.


I will list some steps at the end of how you can attempt to Astral Project yourself. Initially though, you should try to figure out what's the purpose of your projection?


  • Is it just to explore?

  • Do you want to consult with your higher self?

  • Do you wish to meet your Spirit guides?

  • Do you wish to communicate with somebody else?


Whatever your reasons, it's important not to get disheartened if you don't achieve a breakthrough first time around. Astral Projection requires deep connection with your third eye and if you've not flexed that muscle recently, it might take a while before you're able to Astral Project. Also, asking to meet with your Higher Self or Spirit Guides might take considerable more time than simply just exploring the Astral Realm. Although they are here to guide and protect you throughout life, you need to have a good understanding of and connection to yourself to be able to even open that door.


You wouldn't land in a new Kingdom and demand to be greeted by the King and Queen instantly.


But as I said before, the more you do it the better you get and the further you can go within your Astral Protection. There's nothing wrong with projecting three times a week, heck five times if you want but, just be sure to give yourself a break from time to time in order to process everything you experience especially, if you're new. You could even keep a diary for your Astral Projection experiences.


Astral Projection has been around a long time, especially in the East. If I was to give one tip about Astral Projection I would probably remind you that fear is your biggest enemy. In your mind, you fuel your own fire. If there is something you're afraid of, you should run towards it because it only harnesses the power you give it.


I have read some of the scary stories out there from people of various religious backgrounds warning people of the dangers of Astral Projection. In my honest opinion, I haven't had any negative experiences and I strongly belief that the people who share these stories only want to silence people for connecting to their true and higher selves (as I touched on in previous articles when discussing religion). I believe, religion instills fear in people to get them to behaviour how they are desired too, Spirituality doesn't use fear. Fear is self created.


If you do happen to have a negative Astral Projection experience, (which I think is quite rare if you're in the right mindset), or if you do see something which makes you feel extremely uncomfortable do remember you will always be able to return to the physical human realm. If you're having a bad experience you can easily, VERY EASILY just "wake up".


You're not trapped and you won't be stuck in the Astral Realm.


There is no possible way that you can get trapped in the Astral Realm and as a result, die unless you were seriously ill prior to the Astral Projection.


You can and will always return to your body.


And upon returning, I highly recommend documenting everything you experienced so you can begin to make sense of it and maybe explore your mind to figure out what negative emotion/feeling/encounter manifested as the negative experience within your Astral Projection.


If you do feel unsafe for whatever reason and would like to calm your mind then I will list a few ways you can raise your vibration below and none are really that complicated;


  1. Say A Prayer - If you've just finished watching a horror film or a 4 day bender of true crime documentaries you might be a little paranoid about what energy you "attract". I certainly was. However, I'm pleased to tell you that avoiding this energy is simple as saying the following phrase or creating your own version; "I am only attracting love and light. I am only receiving love and light. I am only projecting love and light. May my higher self and spirit guides protect and guide me through my experience. I am projecting love and light to all".

  2. Ask For Protection - You're Spirit Guides and Higher Self will always be in your corner no matter what. You can simply ask your Higher Self, Spirit and Universe to guide and protect you through your experience. The only way to get is if you ask, and they will be more than happy to oblige if it helps you move forward on your Spiritual Journey.

  3. Use Salt or Cleanse your Space - You can cleanse your space before Astral Projection with herbs if you require. You can also keep some salt near to protect from negative energies.

  4. Use Protection Crystals - Keep your Crystals near or wear your pendant for protection.

  5. Visualisation - Imagine yourself surrounded by a bright white light bubble. This is your bodies protection whilst you're in the Astral Realm.


Personally, I only use methods 1,2 and 4 but whatever makes you feel comfortable is what's best for you.


Astral Projection is extremely powerful and useful. You can use it for growth or just messing around and you're safe either way and on that note; let's get into how you can Astral Project.


  1. Find somewhere you won't be disturbed and feel at peace.

  2. Take a couple of deep breathes to get settled in and relaxed.

  3. You can either sit or lie down. I'd recommend somewhere warm-is because you won't be able to hold the meditative state if you're too cold.

  4. You can use a Guided Astral Projection from Youtube which will ease you into your Astral Projection as well as taking you through the relaxation and protection process (I highly recommend this, you can experiment with a few different videos)

  5. If you choose not to use a Guided video, proceed to mediate focusing on your breathe, taking deep breathes and holding them as well as, channeling energy into your third eye and crown chakra.

  6. Feel your vibration rising.

  7. Imagine yourself surrounded by the bright white light and feel it flow through your body. Ask Spirit/Higher Self/Universe for protection/guidance if you desire.

  8. Focus on relaxing each part of your body individually from your toes all the way to the top of your head including eyes, ears and nose. Relaxing each muscle, clenching then releasing if necessary.

  9. Embrace the feeling of your breathing and the tingling sensations across your skin. Embrace the relaxation and let go.

  10. Imagine A Silver Cord running from the base of your spine or from tied around your waist travelling down into the centre of the Earth. This is your anchor. Anchor yourself. Anchor the cord in the centre of the Earth as far down as you desire and tie it to something you find. (Now you won't float away, so no need to worry about being trapped).

  11. Relax deeply and sink down. Your mind will be clear, detached from external sounds.

  12. Feel yourself rise.


At first, if you're new to this, it might feel weird and you will struggle to "rise" or "breakthrough" as I mentioned earlier on. This is fine. The more you do it and the more you embrace the relaxation, the easier it will be to "float" or "rise". Don't be afraid. Be open to the experience.


You might only project a couple of meters above yourself and that's totally fine, the more you practice the easier it will become and soon you'll be protecting wherever you desire.


Sometimes I still project within the same room even with my previous experience. Don't be too hard on yourself, because the key element is pure relaxation not so much focus or intent.
